Thomson Canopus announced to release the latest version of their video editing software for professionals, EDIUS 5.1, from later April. EDIUS 5.1 offers improvements in basic performances in video editing. It also features Blu-ray authoring and support for their H.264 / MPEG 2 codec accelerator board, FIRECODER Blu, offering more features and better performance.
FIRECODER Blu has a powerful stream processor, SpursEngine, made by Toshiba, allowing high-speed encoding and decoding of high-definition (HD) video image with H.264 and MPEG-2 codec, super resolution processing that can up-convert standard definition video image to high-def quality video, and so forth. Thomson Canopus had revealed their plan to support FIRECODER Blu with EDIUS in an event that Toshiba hosted last December in Akihabara.
Thus far, it has been necessary to use another piece of software called FIRECODER WRITER, bundled within FIRECODER Blu, when you write video images edited with EDIUS 5.1 to Blu-ray disc media. EDIUS 5.1 now allows to seamlessly perform Blu-ray disc authoring from the menu within the software itself once editing is done. Furthermore, FIRECODER Blu enables to export video even faster. As a result, the latest version has greatly improved the usability and efficiency of Blu-ray authoring and HD video editing.
Also, the company announced that EDIUS Neo 2, the latest version of EDIUS Neo that is a video editing software for consumers or prosumers, would support FIRECODER Blu as well. Based on EDIUS 5.1, EDIUS Neo 2 has only editing features required for ordinary users. With addition of this product, Thomson Canopus' H.264 solution is available for users ranging from video editing pros to general users who enjoy video posting on the Internet in order to perform HD video editing, Blu-ray disc authoring, and so forth.
EDIUS 5.1 runs on Windows XP or Vista (32-bit/64-bit), and hardware acceleration for H.264 codec is available on a PC equipped with a FIRECODER Blu board.
The list price of EDIUS 5.1 is $799. Existing users who possess a previous version of EDIUS can obtain the latest version for an upgrade fee. The updater from EDIUS 5 to EDIUS 5.1 is available for free. Also, the company plans to sell a bundled product EDIUS Neo 2 with FIRECODER Blu that includes both EDIUS Neo 2 and FIRECODER Blu as well. The list price of EDIUS Neo 2 with FIRECODER is $749.
