Toshiba Semiconductor Company (hereafter Toshiba) has been accelerating to spread SpursEngine, the company's stream processor for multimedia applications.
Later this month, Toshiba is to hold "SpursEngine Developers Forum 2008" and reveal the launch of SpursEngine Partners Group, which promotes collaborations among companies that develop SpursEngine-powered hardware, software, and system solutions.
SpursEngine is a stream processor developed by Toshiba, based on Cell Broadband Engine (Cell/B.E.). This April, they began shipping samples of SpursEngine SE1000.
The SpursEngine Partners Group is expected to have hardware vendors who develop boards equipped with SpursEngine; software and middleware developers; and system integrators who provide systems that integrate both hardware and software.
Participating in the Group from the initial launch are the following 12 companies: ArcSoft, Inc.; Corel Corp.; CyberLink Inc.; CRI Middleware Co., Ltd.; Jungle, Inc.; Toshiba Information Systems, Corp.; Trendy Corp.; IBM Japan, Ltd.; Fixstars Corp.; FUJISOFT Inc.; Pegasys Inc.; and Leadtek Research Inc.
At the Forum, Toshiba is to introduce the development environment and examples along with future product strategies, in order to further spread the stream processor. Each partner company who shows up at the Forum is also expected to announce their own efforts and product outlines regarding SpursEngine.
