Taiwan's Leadtek Research announced that the company would begin shipping WinFast PxVC1100, video accelerator card powered by Toshiba’s SpursEngine, from Tuesday, November 14. (Leadtek's news release [Japanese])

WinFast PxVC1100 is a video accelerator card and is equipped with a SpursEngine SE1000 chip, Toshiba's stream processor. The interface is PCI-Express x1. Bundled with the card are: DVD MovieWriter 5, DVD authoring software; WinDVD 8, a DVD player tool; and Ulead VideoStudio11 Plus, video editing software, all of which are by Corel Corp. These pieces of software allow HD videos editing, SD-to-HD video upconversion ("Super Resolution"), transcoding, and creation of DVD/AVCHD discs.

According to Nikkei WinPC's benchmark, when a high-def video in MPEG-2 TS format is transcoded to H.264, WinFast PxVC1100 is about 2.9 times faster than Core 2 Quad Q9650 (3GHz) and about 5.3 times faster than Pentium Dual Core E5200 (2.5GHz).

Prior to the release of WinFast PxVC1100, Leadtek will be joining DIY PC Expo 2008 Autumn, an event for do-it-yourself PC users, held on November 2 to 3 at Akihabara Convention Hall (2nd floor on Akihabara Daibiru), with product demonstrations and a seminar (titled "New World of Video Editing”).

In addition, also showing up at Leadtek's booth during DIY PC Expo this time is CRI Middleware, another SpursEngine partner company. CRI Middleware is scheduled to demonstrate their high-speed H.264 codec technology with CRI Sofdec for SpursEngine, their middleware supporting SpursEngine for multimedia applications.
