SpursEngine boards began shipping, and the Partners group is further expanding. Toshiba, who developed SpursEngine processor, is hosting an event in Akihabara, Tokyo on Saturday, December 6. At the event, Pegasys, encoding enthusiasts' favorite software vender, will speak about their development of the front-end for SpursEngine. Also, start-up Loilo and Morpho will talk about their products, technology, and perhaps plans to support SpursEngine in the future.
Pegasys develops and sells TMPGEnc family, a renowned MPEG-2 encoder, and other related software products. Though they joined the Partners group, Pegasys had not released any product supporting SpursEngine yet. Many users would be interested in what and how they are doing with the stream processor.
Loilo is a start-up, attracting public attention with LoiloScope, a novel and unique video editing software. At CEATEC this year, Loilo demonstrated LoiloScope and released their plan to support acceleration with GPU by AMD/ATI. Loilo has not clarified their participation to the Partners group yet, and it is worth noting whether Loilo states something about SpursEngine at the above event.
Morpho, another start-up, has been already listed on Toshiba's Cell Users Group site as a SpursEngine partner company. Morpho has technology and products regarding image-blurry reduction and motion detection for digital cameras. It is interesting to see how they apply their technology to SpursEngine for high-speed processing.
Whereas SpursEngine has been valued for its fast H.264 codec, more application software is deemed necessary in the future. Having observed the activities of SpursEngine partner companies since this November, however, the software matter may improve significantly. CRI Middleware’s SpursCoder of is a recent case in point.
Moreover Leadtek Japan is also expected to announce something about the SpursEngine software development environment (SDK) in this event. This seems a must-see event to observe what will happen around SpursEngine in the future.
