Taiwan's Leadtek Research Inc. demonstrated WinFast PxVC1100, a video accelerator card featuring Toshiba's stream processor, SpursEngine, at DIY PC Expo 2008 Autumn on November 2nd and 3rd (Figure 1). DIY PC Expo is an event for DIY PC users and has been held in Akihabara, Tokyo.
WinFast PxVC1100 is a video accelerator card equipped with a SpursEngine SE1000 chip and used in a PCI-Express x1 slot. It is bundled with SpursEngine-capable software for DVD authoring, DVD playback, and video editing, all provided by Corel. The package allows to edit high-definition (HD) videos, upconvert from standard definition to HD with Toshiba's Super Resolution technology, transcode, and create DVD/AVCHD discs. Leadtek plans to provide the SpursEngine card as a bare born PC, too (Figure 2).
While Leadtek mainly demonstrated graphic cards in the previous events, this time they emphasized WinFast PxVC1100 particularly as they were shipping the new product on the 19th of this month. In their demo space, they displayed the WinFast PxVC1100 card and the package and demonstrated video editing or upconversion with DVD Movie Writer 5 powered by a PC equipped with the video accelerator card (Figure 3). Also, displayed in the booth were a 300-mm silicon wafer and a chip photograph with the floor plan, provided by the SpursEngine chip manufacturer, Toshiba Semiconductor Company, attracting attention of many visitors (Figure 4).

Moreover, CRI Middleware, who develops and offers middleware for entertainment software and is another SpursEngine partner company, was present at Leadtek's booth, demonstrating CRIWARE for SpursEngine, CRI Sofdec Encoding & Decoding Library and "Crispeee," H.264 codec high-speed encoding system (Figure 5).
"Crispeee" is CRI Middleware's turnkey solution with H.264 high-speed codec software for video processing, based on Leadtek's bare born system featuring SpursEngine.
Since this year, SpursEngine Partners group has been accelerating sales promotion activities for SpursEngine, such as SpursEngine Developers Forum and CEATEC JAPAN. As part of high-definition product offerings for the year-end shopping season, promotion and joint marketing for Qosmio, Toshiba's entertainment notebook PC, and video accelerator boards featuring SpursEngine are expected to be even more active.
